THIS IS TRUE !! Glaucoma does not affect acuity until very, very late in the course of the disease.  1. longer fibers are more sensitive to the compression, i.e. peripheral vision  2. there are more ganglion cells serving the fovea vs. the periphery, i.e the shear numbers.
