THAT'S RIGHT, THIS IS WRONG!!! Impedance matching refers to the transfer of approximately 99.9% of sound energy in the air to the fluid of the inner ear.  Think about a high heel shoe, and how all of the force is concentrated onto the tiny tip of the heel (the stapes).
