Point: 6. Inferior Olivary Nucleus

Function:
Motor coordination via projections to the cerebellum. Sole source of CLIMBING FIBERS to the cerebellum.

Pathway:
Axons arising from cells in the inferior olive CROSS and enter the inferior cerebellar peduncle to reach the CONTRA. cerebellar cortex. (nucleus receives a variety of motor inputs that you don't need to know).

Deficits:
Lesion results in motor incoordination of the CONTRA. arm and leg.

Other Note:
CEREBELLAR LESIONS RESULT IN IPSI. MOTOR INCOORDINATION. INFERIOR OLIVE PROJECTS TO CONTRA. CEREBELLUM, THEREFORE LESIONS OF INF. OLIVE=CONTRA. MOTOR INCOORDINATION. LESION OF INFERIOR CEREBELLAR PEDUNCLE=IPSI. PROBLEMS.
