For our PROBLEM SOLVING EXERCISES, WE WILL EQUATE A UNILATERAL LESION OF CAUDAL NUCLEUS SOLITARIUS WITH AN INCREASE IN HEART RATE (just like DORSAL MOTOR X). Loss of excitation of the dorsal motor nucleus X means dorsal motor X is firing LESS. This results in sympathetics dominating=heart rate UP!
